The Fighting Murphys - boxing brothers

The Murphys were a well known family made up of 3 boxing brothers.

Jimmy and Tim Murphy were also handy with their fists.

Jimmy (James) was said to be better than his older brother, Billy, but sadly died in Johannesburg Hospital aged 25 years.

Jimmy Murphy fought all the cracks that came along and beat them all. He won the South African Lightweight Championship at a time when that title meant a lot. It meant in fact that the holder was practically the best man in the world - N.Z Truth Archives, 1915, page 11.
